Comparison of Pre-Operative and Post-Operative Thiol-Disulfide Levels in Acute Abdomen Patients

Aim: To evaluate role of thiol and disulfide homeostasis, a novel marker oxidative stress, in the follow-up acute abdomen. 
 Material Method: This prospective study included 107 patients (62 men 45 women) with diagnosis abdomen (AA). In all patients, age, gender cause were recorded. addition, native (-SH), total (tSH) (-S-S-) levels at baseline, admission on postoperative day 3 prospectively recorded -SS-/-SH, -S-S-/tH -SH/tSH ratios calculated. Results: When causes assessed, it was seen that 72 (67.29%) underwent surgery due to appendicitis while 5 (4.67%) lower GIS perforation, 7 (6.54%) perforated peptic ulcer, sigmoid volvulus, 4 (3.74%) strangulated hernia 14 (13.08%) miscellaneous reasons. assessed as single parameter, mean level 316.71±78.16 (327.5) preoperative period 264.00±72.85 (278.30) period.
